Kambrokind Dreams
Out
of nothing we developed an 8 ha smallholding called Sterland (Starland)
where we now have regular stargazing sessions almost every night
in an open muisbos enclosure..
We do a monthly Stargazing
cession called "Stars to Midnight", the first weekend
after New Moon with lectures about Astronomy, we provide light meals
like home made Karoo Curry and rice, braaivleis etc. This event
is on a Friday and Saturday. Booking is essential in both cases
as we can only allow a limited number of visitors.
A special lecture room
called "Die Dam" is there for the stargazing lectures
with lots of info about stargazing.
Donkey cart rides are
available by appointment. Remember the donkeys must first be caught
and put in front of the cart!
There is also a Radio
Control Model Flying field with two runways about 200 x 9 meter
each.
We offer different plant
routes in the area where the most suitable time is August to October
at the best, but other times in the year, one can just as much enjoy
the veld.
The Historical walking
trail about the old buildings in town is available at Kambro kind.
A short DVD about Sutherland
and surroundings is available at Kambro kind.
We developed all these
adventures for the visitor and our wish is that every one must come
and enjoy our beautiful town so that when you leave, you will say,
now I can see forever........

 The
two donkey carts are also on duty to relive the old nostalgy of yester year.
Like
Old MacDonald`s farm, there are also geese, duck, goats, sheep, Cleopatra the
ostrich, the donkeys Griet and Willem, peacocks, etc to entertain the caravan
stand people.

Kambrokind
Guest House
In Sutherland's main road you will find the old style Bed and Breakfast of Rita
and Jurg Wagener called Kambrokind.
Kambrokind was graded FOUR STARS ****.
We were
awarded the prestigious B&B Guest House large style award in 2004 as a semi-finalist
by the AA Travel Guide - an award of which we are justifiably proud! We were also finalists
in the 2005 competition.
Six en-suite rooms are available at Kambrokind of
which one is a Self-Catering unit. A sheltered outside braai (BBQ), "Die
Tolhuis" with microwave, DSTV, cutlery and crockery is also available to
all of our guests.
Five secure carports are available.
| "Baroe"
Guest House |
|
A
second house called "Baroe" offers two en-suite
rooms and a comfortable living room with DSTV and inside braai
(BBQ). An outside braai and double lock-up garage is also
available. |
| "Skrywershuisie"
Guest House |

|
The
third cottage is called "Skrywershuisie" with two rooms with double
beds, living room with DSTV and fireplace, kitchen and single bathroom. On the
same premises is another en suite room with a double bed. |
All
three houses are 4 ****star graded by the Tourism Grading Council.
Kambro
is a very tough Karoo veld food something like a potato. It can be eaten ........
and also makes a very nice jam if you know how to do it! They
also run a coffee shop from the same premises and the sign says it all: Halley
sê kom eet ( Halley say come and eat) ........ Halley of course
being the famous comet that we were able to witness in 1986.
Rita
and Jurg recently moved from Swellendam after having lived there for 25 years,
Rita as a primary school teacher and Jurg as bank manager. Rita, born in Sutherland,
always had the passion to return and be of service to the community and Jurg also
runs his own real estate agency and can be visited at www.jurgproperties.co.za. They
also use the house as a private home and guests are always welcomed by the family
as only Karoo people can do. The last member of the family is Miss Megan, the
colour point Persian cat who is part of the furniture. The outside guardians of
peace are two Jack Russels called Jack and Tosca.
In
winter time, the inside fireplace will welcome you and one can spend
hours listening to Rita`s stories about her birth town. Not to be
missed is the scrapbook which has been kept over many years and
the dvd's of all the places of interest.
We also have 3 x 11 inch (280 mm) Celestron
GO -TO telescopes on the smallholding Sterland, just 1 km otside
town in the direction of Matjiesfontein - the only one of this size
in town!
