STERLAND CARAVAN PARK

Camping under the stars? At the coldest place in South Africa?

Yes, at last Sutherland has a caravan park, just one kilometer outside of town, in the direction of Matjiesfontein, called SterlandCaravan Park.

Here we farm with stars as this is also the spot where we do stargazing every night.

The Camp site has seven stands with electricity, ablution block with two electric geysers.

You get a typical farm feeling when you see the animals around you like the goat, Cleopatra the ostrich, the donkeys, geese, duck and turkeys.

The seven stands of about 10 x 11 meters are nicely laid out between Chinese poplars and Soutbos. The surface is gravel and tent pegs can be easily knocked into the soil. The gravel is ideal because grass cannot take the frost in winter. The stands has got interesting Karoo bossie names like, Kapokbos, Spekbos, Asbos, Renosterbos, Harpuisbos and Kriedoring.

Tents and bikers are also most welcome. On the one side of the premises is a 14 meter diameter Muisbos enclosure, two meters high with a braai lapa in the centre, electrical plug and surrounding lights.

Each stand has also got a separate braai drum.

The ablution blocks have got a scullery in the centre, ladies shower and toilet and the one side and gents on the other side. At present we are expanding the ablution block as camping numbers are growing.

The ablution block is serviced every morning.

Washing lines are available. Wood can be obtained at the local shops in town.

Sitting next to your camp fire, looking up in the dark clear sky, you will be amazed to see the unforgettable Milky Way and stars from horizon to horizon, making you wish that you can see forever.
